Hyderabad: The Telangana Medical Health Department on December 25 said that total 16 UK returnee has tested positive for COVID-19. The Health Department has identified 926 passengers and has tested them for the COVID-19.

"Since 9 December, 1,200 people have come to Telangana from the UK. We identified 926 of them and tested them for Coronavirus. So far, 16 people tested positive and they have been placed in special wards at various hospitals. We identified 76 people who have come in contact with the 16 and have put them in quarantine. We sent the samples to CCMB to find out the virus genome sequence. Hopefully, the results will come in another two days," the statement said.

The Health Department is on high alert in the wake of the new strain of Coronavirus. The officials said that they are ramping up efforts in tracing, testing and treatment of the infected to prevent the spread of the virus. On Thursday seven UK returnees have tested positive for the COVID-19.
