Telangana reports 1,914 new COVID19 cases, five new deaths on Tuesday

The last time the state reported more than 1900 cases were on October 5, 2020 when the state reported 1983 cases.

Telangana reports 1,914 new COVID19 cases, five new deaths on Tuesday

Hyderabad: Telangana reported 1,914 new Covid cases on Tuesday taking the overall tally to 3,16,649 in the state. The last time the state reported more than 1900 cases were on October 5, 2020, when the state reported 1983 cases.

The state reported five new deaths on April 6 taking the total death toll to 1,734. The fatality rate in the state is 0.54 per cent which is less than the national average of 1.3 per cent.

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area on Tuesday reported 393 new cases. The neighbouring Rangareddy district reported 169 new cases. Medchal Malkajgiri reported 205 and Sangareddy 76 new cases.

Other districts of Telangana are also seeing a surge in cases. Nizamabad on Tuesday reported 179 new cases while Nirmal reported 104 cases and Karimnagar 80 cases.

Also on Tuesday, the Chief Secretary of Telangana, Somesh Kumar tested positive.

Around 285 citizens recovered from the infection on Monday taking total recoveries to 3,03,298 in the state. The recovery rate, as per the government, now stands at 95.78 per cent, which is approximately four per cent higher than the national average of 92.1 percent. The state has 11,617 active cases currently of which 6,634 are under home isolation.

The government tested 74,274 citizens on Tuesday. So far 1,05,72,621 samples have been tested in the state. Samples tested per million population stand at 2,84,057. Reports of 3,202 samples are awaited. The state tested 49.1 per cent primary contacts while 11.9 per cent secondary contacts.

There are only 20 Government RT-PCR / CBNAAT / TRUENAT centres in the state. Around 60 private centres too are operational. On Tuesday, 63,077 tests were conducted at Government centres.

Also, out of total infection, 78.9 per cent were asymptomatic while 21.1 per cent are symptomatic.

Meanwhile, India detected 115,736 new cases of the reported COVID19 cases on Tuesday, the highest daily increase so far. Maharashtra reported 55,469 cases on the same day, while Chhattisgarh scaled a new peak of 9,921 cases. Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi reported more than 5,000 cases each.
