Court directs cops to register case against director RGV for murder movie

Hyderabad: The SC & ST Atrocities Prevention Court in Nalgonda district has directed the police to register a case against filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma, who had recently announced a movie based on the honour killing of Perumalla Pranay in Miryalaguda town in 2018.

The court gave directions to I Town police station in Miryalaguda after Pranay’s father approached it seeking action on the filmmaker, in connection with the movie titled ‘Murder’.

Pranay’s father, Perumalla Balaswamy, who had initially raised objection after the movie's first look was released on June 22, approached the court with the same concern. The case registered after the murder is under trial and the movie which is claimed to be have been made based on the love story of Pranay and Amrutha and the events that followed till Pranay’s murder by Amrutha’s father, T. Maruthi Rao, and his men. Balaswamy informed the court that the movie will influence the trial of the case.

Admitting his contention, the court directed the police to register a case against the director.

Earlier, while speaking to NewsMeter after the movie’s first look, Balaswamy said, “The filmmaker did not consult Amrutha or my family before releasing the first look of his movie.

I am unaware what he is going to portray. We are still in the misery of losing our son and our fight for justice for Amrutha will continue. At such a time, he should not have chosen this subject to make a film.”

Even as the trial of the case is yet to begin, Amrutha’s father, Maruti Rao, allegedly died by suicide consuming poison at Arya Vysya Bhavan in Khairatabad of Hyderabad
