COVID-19: 16 new cases reported in Suryapet

Hyderabad: Sixteen new COVID-19 cases were reported in Suryapet district on 16 April, the highest number of cases reported from the district on a single day. The total number of positive cases in Suryapet is now 39.

As of 15 April, Suryapet has the fourth-highest number of COVID-19 patients in Telangana. On 12 April, the district had reported 11 new cases. With the rise in the number of Corona patients, Suryapet town has been declared a containment zone and people will not be allowed to enter or leave the area.

Among the 16 positive cases reported on Thursday, 14 are reportedly the family members of a COVID-19 patient from the Kothagudem Bazaar area while the other two are primary contacts of other patients. Earlier, nine Corona-positive cases in the district were primary contacts of a patient from Kothagudem Bazaar.

Vinay Kumar Reddy, Suryapet Collector told NewsMeter,. ā€œ16 is a big number. But out of that, 14 belongs to three families that share the same neighbourhood. All the three families already have people tested with Coronavirus. Seven are men and the remaining women. Three are above 50 years.ā€

On 15 April, the state had reported six new cases and no deaths. The total number of patients cured/discharged is 118. According to the medical bulletin, the state recorded 650 COVID-19 cases of which 514 are now active. The Greater Hyderabad, with 267 cases, continues to be on top of the list of hotspots in the state.
