COVID deaths in Andhra breaches 2500 mark; But state improves in recovery rate
By Newsmeter Network Published on 15 Aug 2020 1:31 PM GMTVijayawada: The COVID death toll rose to 2,562 and number of total positive cases climbed to 2,81,817 in Andhra Pradesh on Saturday. The state recorded 87 deaths and 8,732 fresh infections in the last 24 hours.
However, the silver lining in the dark cloud is, COVID recoveries in the 24 hours ending Saturday 9 am outnumbered new cases. While 10,414 patients were discharged from Andhra hospitals, while 1,91,117 people have recovered. Andhra Pradesh reported a recovery rate of 67.81 per cent and a mortality rate of 0.9 per cent
Meanwhile, the number of active COVID-19 cases stood at 88,138 . The infection positivity rate rose to 10.02 per cent.
According to a media bulletin issued by the State Command Control Room (Health) on Saturday evening, with another 53,712 tests, including 21,898 Rapid Antigen tests, as many as 28,12,197 samples have been tested so far in the state.
On Saturday, only one district ā East Godavari with 1,126 cases reported over 1,000 new infections, and Krishna district had the lowest number of 298 cases.
East Godavari district continued to top the chart of overall cases with a total of 39,418, followed by Kurnool (32,746), Anantapur (28,947), Guntur (25,549) and Visakhapantam (24,296). East Godavari, with the highest number of active cases (39,418), also has reported the most recoveries (23,753).
Among the 87 casualties, Chittoor district accounted for 10 deaths, Guntur 9, East Godavari and West Godavari reported eight each, Anantapur, Kurnool and Kadapa districts reported seven each, Nellore, Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram districts reported six each, Prakasam and Srikakulam reported five each while Krishna district reported three deaths
