COVID Update: TS gov conducts highest tests till date

Hyderabad: The latest medical bulletin released by the Department of Public Health and Family Welfare, Telangana, stated that 1,178 citizens were tested positive for the virus on 11th July 2020, taking the total number of positive cases in the state to 33,402.

The number of citizens tested, however, was higher than the previous day. A total of 11, 062 citizens were tested on 11th July, bringing down the positivity rate of the tests to 10.6 percent (daily), and 20.5 percent (cumulative average). To date, Telangana has conducted 1,62,171 citizens for the virus.

1,714 citizens were also discharged, taking the recovery rate to 62.63 percent. The bulletin also reported that 9 citizens succumbed to COVID on the day, taking the total tally of deceased to 348.

The GHMC district reported 736 new cases.

As of 11th July, Telangana has conducted 4,357 tests per million population, but it still has the second-lowest testing rates out of all other states and union territories.

Status of Occupancy:

The government also reported in its bulletin that for the 17,081 COVID beds, only 10.7 percent have been occupied until 11th July. 89.3 percent or 15,250 beds are currently vacant.

10,904 isolation beds, 2,990 oxygen beds, and 1,356 ICU beds are vacant in state-run hospitals.

As for Gandhi Hospital, which has been identified as the 'Centre for Excellence in COVID care', the beds currently vacant are 1,075. Of the 1,890 bed capacity, the hospital has 116 patients in ICU, 359 patients on oxygen/ CPAP, and 340 patients in wards.
