Accused threatens victim with knife, escapes by jumping off moving train

Guntur: In a shocking incident, a 35-year-old woman travelling in the Santragachi Special Express (Train No. 07222) was allegedly raped and robbed by an unidentified man while the train was moving between Guntur and Peddakurapadu Railway Stations on the night of October 13, 2025.
The incident, which occurred in a ladies’ coach, came to light on Wednesday.
Victim boarded train at Rajahmundry
According to Railway Police, the victim, a resident of Rajamahendravaram in East Godavari district, boarded the Santragachi Special Express from Rajahmundry to travel to Charlapally, where she works as a domestic help.
She occupied the rear-side ladies coach, which was empty at the time.
Stranger entered coach at Guntur
At around 7:05 p.m., when the train halted at Guntur Railway Station, a man aged around 40 years, wearing a black shirt and grey trousers and carrying a bag, approached the ladies coach.
Despite the victim warning him that it was reserved for women, he reportedly convinced her to open the door and entered the compartment, locking it from inside.
Assault on moving train
While the train was running between Guntur and Peddakurapadu, the accused allegedly threatened the woman with a knife, assaulted her, and forced her into sexual intercourse against her will.
Police said the victim was beaten on her face and other parts of the body.
Robbery and Escape
After committing the crime, the assailant robbed the woman’s handbag containing Rs 5,600 in cash and a mobile phone.
When the train neared Peddakurapadu around 7:53 p.m., he jumped off the moving train and fled the scene.
Complaint filed at Secunderabad RPS
Despite her ordeal, the woman continued her journey to Charlapally and later reached the Railway Police Station (RPS) at Secunderabad to lodge a complaint.
Based on her statement, a Zero FIR was registered, and the case has been transferred to Nadikudi Police Station in Andhra Pradesh for further investigation.
Police investigation underway
The accused is described as a man of short build, around 40 years of age, wearing a black shirt and grey pants.
Railway and Andhra Pradesh Police have launched efforts to identify and arrest the culprit.
