100 red sanders logs seized in Kadapa, 6 smugglers held

Kadapa: The police seized 100 red sanders logs and arrested six smugglers in the Vontimitta police station limits in the district. Superintendent of police K.K.N Anburajan told the media on Tuesday that the police were checking vehicles at Mandapam Palli village in Vontimitta mandal when they discovered the five red sanders logs being transported in a car. The police arrested the five smugglers and seized the logs.

During interrogation, the smugglers revealed that they had concealed 95 red sanders logs in the bushes in the forest area. The police conducted a raid at Moulhithat Dargah and seized 95 red sanders logs and arrested another smuggler. They also seized a car during the raid.

The SP said that so far, the police have seized red sander logs worth more than Rs. 10 crore in the district during the year.

On Friday, the police had busted an interstate red sanders smuggling gang in Hyderabad and seized 1,500 kg (1.5 tonnes) of red sanders worth Rs. 60.18 lakh. The sleuths of the special operations team (SOT), LB Nagar zone, along with the Malkajgiri police, arrested two persons – Shaik Mohammed Rafi (24) and Mulla Basheer Amhed (51) – and seized 31 red sanders logs.
