120 kg Ganja seized in Dundigal; One arrested, kingpin on the run

Hyderabad: Dundigal Police and the Special Operations Team (SOT) of Medchal Zone busted an interstate ganja gang and arrested five of its members. Over 120 kg of the contraband substance was also seized.

The accused was caught red-handed while attempting to smuggle ganja from Visakhapatnam to Haryana via Hyderabad's Outer Ring Road (ORR).

Accused Details

Sagar Pawar (23), Lorry Driver, Gulbarga, Karnataka – absconding, Devraj @ Deva @ Sachin, Gulbarga – main supplier, absconding, Bajrang, Hisar, Haryana – intended receiver, absconding, Hanumanth Pawar (29), Gulbarga – sub-peddler and Rajkumar @ Raju, Gulbarga – sub-peddler.

Items seized:

The police found 120.17 kg of ganja in 43 packets, a Tata Nexon car used for transportation, and five mobile phones used by the accused.

Tip-off leads to swift action

Acting on a credible tip-off received at around 5:00 pm on June 22, the police learned that a person was transporting ganja in a Tata Nexon car.

After obtaining necessary permissions from senior officers, a police team set up a watch near Exit No. 5 at Rotary No. 1, close to the toll plaza in Dundigal.

At approximately 6:00 pm, the team spotted the vehicle and intercepted it. The driver, upon noticing the police, tried to flee but was apprehended swiftly.

Confession and Seizure

During questioning, the suspect appeared nervous and admitted to carrying illicit ganja. Upon inspecting the vehicle’s boot, police found 43 packets of ganja wrapped in brown adhesive tape, weighing a total of 120.17 kg.

The accused revealed that he was acting as a transporter for the main accused, Sagar Pawar (A1), who remains at large. He also named other accomplices involved in the smuggling network.

Network of accused spans multiple states

The smuggling operation appears to be part of a larger interstate network with operatives based in Karnataka and Haryana, said N Koti Reddy, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Medchal Zone), Cyberabad.
