Hyderabad: Namapally railway police arrested 14 persons including women and a juvenile, and seized 336 kg of ganja worth Rs 67 lakh.
Special teams caught these persons at Lingampalli railway station on Thursday. Police said they were traveling from Visakhapatnam to Mumbai in the AC coaches of LTT Express
The accused were identified as Shetti Maha Devi (26), Durya Krishna (29), Vasantha Ravi (27), Dora Vijay Kumar, Vanthala Laiban (29 ), Vanthala Thulasi (19), Shetti Praveen Kumar (19), Vanthala Malleswari (29), Vasantha Suhasini (26), Shetti Radhamani (32), Shetty Padma (50), Vanthala Kumari (31), Pujari Ganga (20), and a 17-year old boy.
During regular checks, police found 24 bags n a suspicious condition in three-tier AC coaches. After checking, police recovered ganja. Passengers carrying the bags were detained.
On inquiry, the accused stated that they had been offered commissions to transport the bags from Visakhapatnam to Mumbai. The bags would be picked up by the receivers when the train reached Mumbai
Police said a large quantity of drugs is being smuggled ahead of the New Year celebrations.
