Hyderabad: A 17-year-old student died by suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan on Saturday. The victim, Thonneti Vinay, was enrolled in a long-term coaching program at Narayana IIT Academy in Chanda Nayak Thanda in Madhapur, Hyderabad. His body was found on Saturday at 11 am in room No 403 of the college’s Madhapur branch.

Vinay was a native of Thondamanadu village in Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh. He was found lifeless by a fellow student who immediately alerted the college authorities. Upon gaining access to the locked room, college officials rushed Vinay to a nearby hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. Madhapur police were informed and the body was shifted to Osmania Hospital for postmortem examination.

Preliminary investigations into the reasons for the suicide suggest that Vinay had recently appeared for the IIT JEE exams held on January 27. Upon checking the answer key, he reportedly found that his marks were lower than expected, plunging him into a state of despair and depression, as recounted by his friends and classmates.

A case was registered at the Madhapur police station and is currently under investigation.
