2 BJP workers arrested for assaulting pastor in Vanasthalipuram

Hyderabad: The police arrested two BJP workers who allegedly attacked a pastor at Vanasthalipuram on the night of 28 January. The party workers had accused the pastor, G. Chandramouli, of religious conversions and attacked him.

Condemning the arrest, BJP workers came out in large numbers and staged a protest outside the police station on Friday alleging that the pastor was involved in conversions. However, the police registered a case against them.

On Thursday night, G. Chandra Mouli, a pastor at Jerusalem Church in Hasthinapuram at Vanasthalipuram, and his wife went to their church member Jayamma's house to pray. While they were praying, a few persons claiming to be Hindu Dharma Protectors entered Jayamma's house and assaulted the pastor. They demanded he change his name and stopped them from praying. They alleged that he was doing religious conversions and threatened him with dire consequences.

Based on a complaint from Chandra Mouli, a case under Sections 295(A), 323, and 506 of the IPC has been registered at the Vanasthalipuram police station.
