Hyderabad: Days after a minor girl was killed after an airgun misfired in a farmhouse, the police have arrested the farmhouse owner and a minor boy who fired the gun by mistake.
"During the investigation, we found that the farmhouse owner, Venkat Prasad, left the air gun with the pellets in gross negligence," said Patancheru deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Bheem Reddy.
Shanvi, a four-year-old, died after an airgun allegedly misfired at a farmhouse in Vavilala in Jinnaram mandal in Sangareddy district. The incident took place when the children were playing with the airgun on Tuesday. The girl was immediately taken to Osmania Hospital. She succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday morning.
The police reached the farmhouse after the incident was reported on Wednesday. They said that the farmhouse is owned by a Hyderabad-based businessman Gorijala Venkata Prasad. "The girl's family is from Nizamabad and live in the watchman's quarters," said DSP Bheem Reddy.
"On Tuesday, some relatives visited the family to attend the Mallanna Jatara. Shanvi and her cousin were playing with the air gun. The boy loaded the airgun with a pellet and fired at Shanvi which hit the right side of her forehead. The boy panicked and fled," the DSP said.
The police apprehended the boy near Shameerpet on Wednesday night. The farmhouse owner has been named as the primary accused in the case and taken into custody. A case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder under various sections of the IPC has been filed.
