Hyderabad: The Rachakonda commissioner of police invoked the Preventive Detention Act and detained two inter-state ganja smugglers on Monday. The two have been identified as Devender Singh (45) of Rajasthan and Ravindar Kumar (36) of Uttar Pradesh.
The two men smuggled ganja from Odisha to Uttar Pradesh via Hyderabad and had been arrested from Hayathnagar here on 10 April this year with 200 kg of ganja.
They have been lodged in Central Prison, Cherlapally.
According to the police, the two men bought ganja from Yadav, a resident of Agra, who in turn bought it from Hari, a resident of the Agency area in Araku. Yadav had a deal with the two men to transport ganja from Vishakapatnam and Odisha to Agra via Hyderabad.
On 5 April 2021, the two men went to Araku in Vishakapatnam district where they met Hari who took them to Padawa in Odisha and loaded 200 kg ganja in a secret cabin of their lorry. Based on a tip-off, the special operation team and Hayatnagar police laid a trap in Hayatnagar and arrested both the men on 14 April.
To prevent them from smuggling ganja, the Rachakonda CP invoked the PD Act against them and detained them on Monday.
