Anakapalle: The Narsipatnam police on Friday arrested a 20-year-old youth for raping a six-year-old girl at Narsipatnam town in Anakapalle district. Narsipatnam ASP V.N Manikanta Chandolu said the accused, G. Sai Ram Kiran, was living with his grandparents after he lost his parents. He was addicted to ganja and was involved in the theft of mobile phones in the past.

Condemning the heinous crime, Home minister Taneti Vanitha said the government will take care of the victim and her family. She asked officials to take strict action against the accused.

The girl, accompanied by her elder sister, had gone out to relieve themselves near their house when she was whisked away by the accused who lived in the neighbouring house. He took her to a lonely place in the colony and sexually assaulted the girl.

The girl's sister told her parents that someone, most likely a burglar, had taken the girl. They started searching for her and found her with severe injuries.

The victim narrated the entire episode and revealed that the accused was their neighbour. She was immediately shifted to the Government Area Hospital at Narsipatnam and from there to King George Hospital, Visakhapatnam.
