3 Chaitanyapuri police officials arrested for demanding Rs 5 lakhs bribe
The complainant under compulsion transferred Rs 3 lakhs from his father’s bank account to the accused through three of the accused
By Newsmeter Network Published on 18 Jan 2024 2:09 PM GMTHyderabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested and booked a criminal misconduct case against three police officials and four others for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 5 lakhs.
A case of criminal misconduct was registered against B Mallesham, PC, Prasad Babu, head constable, warrant execution team of Chaitanyapuri police station, and M Narender, police constable, working as court constable of Chaitanyapuri PS.
According to the case details, the accused demanded a bribe of Rs 5 lakhs from complainant Ange Venkata Ramana, an accused in a case registered at Chaitanyapuri police station. They told him that there were Bailable Warrants (NBWs) pending against him and that they would not execute them in exchange for a bribe.
The accused, along with four other private persons, Soma Shekar, Rama Krishna, AVNAC Kumar Achutuna alias Chaitanya, and Raghavendra Gupta wrongfully confined the complainant on October 25, 2023, in a park at Alkapuri colony and demanded the bribe amount of Rs 5 lakhs. They threatened to execute the warrants against him if he failed to pay the bribe.
The complainant under compulsion transferred Rs 3 lakhs from his father’s bank account to the accused through three of the accused. Further, they demanded and accepted bribe amounts from the complainant several times. The bribe amounts were paid by the complainant’s father and brother.
As the accused harassed the complainant constantly for the remaining bribe amount, the complainant approached the ACB. After conducting the preliminary verification, a case was registered by the ACB City Range. As part of the investigation, on Thursday, the three police personnel of Chaitnayapuri PS and their four accomplices were apprehended. The case is under investigation and further action will be taken following the due process of law.
