The victim Mohammed Musthaq Patel was a resident of the Jakir Hussain colony in Saidabad in the city.
The accused have been identified as Mohammed Hameed Patel (37); Firzdous Begum (35), the victim's wife; and Syed Nayab (23).
Musthaq Patel and Firzdous Begum married 17 years ago and had five children. The couple moved to Hyderabad around 15 years ago from Solapur, Maharashtra. While Patel worked as a lorry driver, his wife was a vegetable vendor at Indraprasad colony in Saidabad police station limits.
Musthaq suspected his wife of having an illicit relationship with his distant relative Mohammed Hameed Patel and used to beat her. The two had decided to kill Musthaq and were waiting for the right opportunity, according to the police.
Last month, Hameed took Musthaq in his auto to Katedan, got him drunk, and tried to murder him. However, the plan failed. On the morning of 22 October, Hameed again invited Musthaq for a drink and the latter agreed. Later, the three accused took a drunk Musthaq to an isolated place in Batasingaram road (Abdullapurmet PS limits), hit him with a rod on his head, and slit his throat with a knife. They brought the body and the dead man's vehicle to Hayathnagar and left the vehicle on the road.
