Hyderabad: A 35-year-old man was run over by an auto (Tata Ace) near Tank Bund here on Monday morning while cycling.

The incident occurred at around 7 a.m. Two other cyclists were at the spot and rushed Abhishek Singh Parihar to a nursing home. He was then shifted to Kamineni Hospital where he is currently in ICU. "He has a hairline fracture in his ribs and shoulders. He also has injuries on his knees, palms, and other parts of the body," said Chetan Ghia, Abhishek's friend.
Gandhi Nagar police station SI Nagaraj Reddy said an FIR has been registered against the auto driver. "We have also taken the driver into custody and seized his vehicle. The victim's condition is stable. However, as per the doctor's advice, he is under observation," the SI added.
Chetan added that while Abhishek is conscious, his breathing is not stable. "The doctors have put Abhishek under observation for a day as there are chances he might face air blockage due to his injuries," he said.
Another cyclist, Santhosh was hit by a truck near Shamirpet in late January earlier this year. "I had several injuries on my chest, hands and chin. It was a narrow road and the truck driver was crossing to go to the petrol bunk. By the time he saw me and pressed on the breaks, it was too late," Santhosh said. Santhosh was not able to report the incident as he was unconscious for a while after the incident during which the truck driver absconded. "There were no CCTV cameras nearby either," he said.
Similar incidents were seen in early January seen in Telangana State. Nitin Agarwal, a 32-year-old techie, lost his life on 1 January. Nitin was riding a bicycle when a drunk car driver hit him in the early hours of 31 December at Gachibowli, Hyderabad. This is the second such case in the last two days in Telangana. On the same day, Yusuf, a tea vendor in Karimnagar, was run over by a lorry. Yusuf was on his way to work in the early hours when the incident occurred.
