Another cyclist, Santhosh was hit by a truck near Shamirpet in late January earlier this year. "I had several injuries on my chest, hands and chin. It was a narrow road and the truck driver was crossing to go to the petrol bunk. By the time he saw me and pressed on the breaks, it was too late," Santhosh said. Santhosh was not able to report the incident as he was unconscious for a while after the incident during which the truck driver absconded. "There were no CCTV cameras nearby either," he said.
Similar incidents were seen in early January seen in Telangana State. Nitin Agarwal, a 32-year-old techie, lost his life on 1 January. Nitin was riding a bicycle when a drunk car driver hit him in the early hours of 31 December at Gachibowli, Hyderabad. This is the second such case in the last two days in Telangana. On the same day, Yusuf, a tea vendor in Karimnagar, was run over by a lorry. Yusuf was on his way to work in the early hours when the incident occurred.
