Hyderabad: The customs officials at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Shamshabad seized 6.06 kg of gold of 24 karats worth about Rs 2.96 crore from a traveler in the early hours on Tuesday.
The passenger arrived by flight EK 524 from Dubai. The gold was concealed inside a rechargeable lantern in the form of a battery. Customs booked a case for gold smuggling against the passenger and further investigation is underway.
Earlier on October 5, the customs recovered 1,209 grams of gold valued at Rs 58.16 lakhs from a passenger, who arrived by the same flight EK 524 from Sudan via Dubai. The gold was concealed in the undergarments and hand-baggage.
