644 persons caught misbehaving with women, children during Bonalu; 5 sent to jail

Hyderabad: As part of its intensive safety measures during the Bonalu, Hyderabad SHE Teams cracked down on harassment incidents across the city, catching 644 offenders indulging in misbehaviour towards women and girls.
Vigilance at major Bonalu venues
SHE Teams were strategically deployed at prominent Bonalu venues, including Golconda, Balkampet Yellamma, Ujjaini Mahankali (Secunderabad) and Laldarwaza Mahankali temples.
Their presence ensured swift intervention against eve-teasing, inappropriate behaviour, filming women without consent and other acts violating womenās dignity.
Among those caught, 552 were adults and 92 were minors.
Seven days' jail for five offenders
In a strong message of zero tolerance, five individuals who were caught misbehaving with women devotees were sentenced to seven days of imprisonment under Section 70(c) of the Hyderabad City Police Act.
They were produced before IXth Special Judicial Magistrate, Nampally, Manda Murali, who awarded the jail term based on evidence and the severity of their acts.
The convicted individuals are Ram Anand (51), Nilakanth (48), Balraju (36), Lakshman (42) and Dinesh (34).
SHE Teams safety alerts
SHE Teams issued advisories urging women and children to remain alert in public places during festivals and to report any misbehaviour immediately by dialling 100/112 or messaging on WhatsApp at 9490616555.
They also cautioned the public against online fraud:
Beware of Fake Profiles: Verify identities before trusting online contacts.
Avoid Oversharing: Limit personal details shared on social media to prevent misuse.
Secure Accounts: Use strong, unique passwords and enable two-factor authentication for enhanced safety.
Public urged to report harassment
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Women Safety Wing, Dr Lavanya NJP, appealed to citizens to report any incidents of teasing or harassment, stating that SHE Teams remain committed to ensuring womenās safety and dignity at all times.
