Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Narcotic Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) along with the Mangalhat police seized 72 kg ganja and 1.8 kg ganja seeds, all worth Rs. 25 lakhs, from four persons.
They also seized a car and four mobile phones from them.
The main suspect, Akash Singh, lives in Dhoolpet, Mangalhat, Hyderabad. Since 2018, he has been obtaining ganja from Vizag, Odisha, and other locations through Shaik Subhani of Khammam and selling it in Hyderabad. He is implicated in five cases in various Hyderabad police stations. He was jailed under the PD Act in 2021 and released in June 2022.
He bought a house in Katedhan from where he was operating his ganja business. There, he made ganja sachets, each containing 10 gms. He had a network of four peddlers in and around Hyderabad who delivered the sachets to customers in the city.
Shaik Subhani, another accused, is a resident of Khammam. He obtained ganja in bulk from Valsagadda Mahesh who cultivates the ganja in Papulur, Odisha, and transports it to Akash Singh who in turn sells it to other peddlers.
As of now 23 drug consumers have been identified and an investigation is underway to identify others, the police said.
