Hyderabad: The LB Nagar police arrested a 24-year-old auto driver on 10 June for sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl in the LB Nagar police station limits.
The man was identified as Shaik Saleem of NTR Nagar in LB Nagar.
A case under various sections of the IPC and the POCSO Act has been filed.
On 10 June, the police received information that a minor girl was repeatedly sexually assaulted in the last three to four days. The girl was sent for medical examination and provided treatment. Her statement was recorded by a female police officer and evidence was collected from the accused's house.
According to the police, Saleem lives in a house located opposite the victim's house. He is married and has two children. However, the couple had a quarrel following which the wife took the children and left for her parents' house.
A few days ago, Saleem called the victim on the pretext of asking her to fetch cigarettes from a nearby shop. He took her inside his house and sexually assaulted her.
Within half an hour of the offence being reported, the LB Nagar police arrested the man. He is being produced before the court for judicial custody. The police said immediate payment of compensation to the victim will be ensured in coordination with the authorities concerned. The Rachakonda police are also organising a counseling session for the victim.
