Abusive comment online on actress Renu Desai leads to arrest; security guard held

Hyderabad: Cybercrime Police in Cyberabad have apprehended a security guard for allegedly posting an abusive and offensive comment on a social media post about actress Renu Desai, officials said on Tuesday.

Comment posted on video featuring Renu Desai shared by a news page

The accused, identified as Kotipalli Venkanna, was working as a security guard and reportedly spent his free time browsing Instagram reels.

Police said he came under the scanner after posting an objectionable comment on a video featuring actress Renu Desai, which was shared by a news page.

Following a digital trail, cybercrime officials tracked down the accused and apprehended him at Madhapur on March 17. He was then brought to the Cyber Crime Police Station in Gachibowli for further inquiry.

Mobile phone seized

During verification, the accused produced his Vivo mobile phone, which was used to post the offensive comment. Police confirmed that the device has been taken into custody as part of the investigation.

Police issue advisory on responsible social media use

Cyberabad Cybercrime Police urged citizens to exercise caution while using social media. Officials warned that posting abusive, defamatory or offensive content can invite legal action under relevant laws.

They also advised the public to report cyber offences to the nearest Cyber Crime Police Station or contact the 1930 cyber helpline.

Call for digital responsibility

Authorities reiterated the importance of responsible online behaviour, emphasising that social media users must adhere to legal and ethical standards while engaging on digital platforms.

Further investigation is underway, police added.
