Hyderabad: Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials on Wednesday arrested Veeravalli Kanakaratnam, engineer-in-chief of the Panchayat Raj Engineering Department, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a complainant.
Bribe for transfer and posting
According to the ACB, Kanakaratnam demanded the bribe from the complainant to show official favour in connection with their transfer and posting. Acting on a complaint, the City Range-2 Unit of ACB laid a trap and caught him red-handed while accepting the bribe.
The bribe amount was recovered from Kanakaratnam at his instance. The chemical test conducted on his left-hand fingers yielded a positive result, confirming contact with the bribe money.
The ACB arrested Kanakaratnam and produced him before the court, following which he was sent to judicial remand. Officials said the case is under further investigation.
