ACB arrests Suraram police inspector with Rs 3 lakhs bribe

Hyderabad: The Anti-Corruption (ACB) sleuths caught an inspector from the Suraram police station for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5 lakhs. The inspector had taken Rs 3 lakhs from the complainant till the arrest.

Identified as Akula Venkatesham, he was posted at the Suraram Police Station under the Cyberabad Commissionerate.

The accused officer had demanded Rs 5 lakhs in total and had already taken Rs 1 lakh from the complainant Ratnakaram Sai Raju, a resident of Gajularamaram Village, Quthbullapur mandal in Medchal-Malkajgiri district. The bribe was to allow him to carry out development works in the Gajularamaram area.

In a statement, the ACB said that the accused officer has already accepted Rs 2 lakhs as ‘a reward to restrain from opening a rowdysheet against the complainant.’ The bribe was recovered from the accused officer at his instance and the contact portion i.e. the bed sheet and pillow cover on his anteroom yielded positive in a chemical test.

Venkatesham was arrested and produced before the Additional Special Judge for SPE and ACB cases at Nampally in Hyderabad. Further investigation is on.

The public is requested to contact the ACB on the toll-free 1064 if they find any government official demanding a bribe for implementing any government work.
