ACB detains over 20 agents at Tirumalagiri, Uppal RTA offices, catches officials sleeping at checkpost
Hyderabad/Kamareddy: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) carried out surprise raids at multiple Road Transport Authority (RTA) offices and checkposts across Telangana on Thursday, detaining several agents and seizing unaccounted cash running into lakhs.
Raids at Tirumalagiri and Uppal RTA offices
ACB teams raided the Tirumalagiri and Uppal RTA offices in Hyderabad, taking several agents into custody for questioning.
At the Tirumalagiri RTA office, nearly 20 agents were detained after officials discovered hundreds of vehicle registration certificates, licences and renewal documents in their possession.
As the in-charge RTO officer was absent during the raid, the ACB team instructed him to report for questioning. Other staff members would also be interrogated as part of the investigation, said ACB DSP Sridhar.
At the Uppal RTA office, raids continued through Thursday afternoon. Seven agents were detained, and authorities seized Rs 3,450 in cash along with their mobile phones, according to Ranga Reddy district ACB DSP Anand Kumar.
However, some RTA officials reportedly went on leave after learning about the raids in advance, raising suspicion among ACB personnel. Officials remarked that prior leaks hampered their efforts to apprehend all involved.

Drivers were depositing money in an illegal cash box at checkpost
In a related operation, ACB officials raided the Salabatpur RTO checkpost in Madnoor mandal of Kamareddy district early on Thursday. Officials seized unaccounted cash worth Rs 91,000, said ACB DSP Shekhar Goud.
During the raid, two private individuals were found collecting money from truck drivers while checkpost staff – AMVI Kavitha and constable Moyinoddin – were asleep.
Several other private collectors fled upon spotting the ACB team. Investigators found that drivers arriving from other States were depositing cash into a tin box kept like a ‘hundi’ (donation box) in a shed near the checkpost to conceal illegal collections.
