ACB raid on land surveyor Abdul Asif in Prakasam exposes illegal assets worth crores

Andhra Pradesh: SK Abdul Asif works as a surveyor in the office of the Deputy Director of Mines and Geology, Prakasam district. His work usually revolves around ground survey and managing records. But to everyone’s surprise, Abdul has managed to amass crores worth of illegal properties before he finally fell into the radar of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).

Based on credible information regarding the acquisition of assets disproportionate to his legal sources of income by Sk Abdul Asif, the ACB officials of Nellore registered a case under sections 13(2) r/w 13(1)(b) of the Prevention of Corruption (As amended in 2018) Act, 1988 against him and initiated an investigation.

Multiple searches on properties

As part of the investigation and on February 6, simultaneous searches were conducted at five locations in Vijayawada, Ongole, Markapuram, Kanigiri and Guntur, relating to him and his relatives. During the searches, incriminating material, including property documents, was seized.

The properties unearthed include

- 2 residential flats

- 1 house site, Ac. 22.00 cents of agricultural land.

- Cash of Rs 2,82,264.

- Gold ornaments weighing about 620 grams

- Silver articles weighing about 500 grams

- Promissory notes worth Rs 3,54,000, 16 wrist watches, 1 motorcycle and valuable household articles.

It is further identified that he paid Rs 15 lakh towards HDFC Life Insurance and Rs 20,000 as an advance for purchasing a Toyota Hyryder.

One locker key was identified, and searches of the locker will be conducted in due course as per the law.

The accused, Sk. Abdul Asif was appointed as Surveyor in the Mines and Geology Department on August 1, 2013, and worked at various places in Prakasam, Kadapa, Krishna and SPS Nellore Districts.

He has been working in the office of the Deputy Director of Mines and Geology, Prakasam District, for one year.
