Accident or murder? Foul play suspected in Medak Congress leader Marelli Anil's death

Hyderabad: A Congress leader from Telangana’s Medak district died under mysterious circumstances late Monday night, with police suspecting foul play after discovering bullet injuries on his body despite initial reports of a road accident.

Accident or planned murder?

The deceased, Marelli Anil (45), was the president of the Congress party’s district SC cell and a well-known leader in Kulcharam mandal. Anil is survived by his wife and two children.

According to police, Anil owned a petrol bunk in Medak town and was travelling to his native Paithara village around midnight on Monday.

Police said his car appeared to have lost control and crashed into a culvert near the electricity substation at Chinnaghanpur. Locals who noticed the damaged vehicle alerted authorities, and Anil was immediately shifted to a private hospital in Medak town.

Police confirm recovery of two bullets

Doctors attending to him found two bullet injuries in his abdomen and informed the police. Despite efforts to save him, Anil succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.

Sub-Inspector Mohammed Ghouse, who visited both the accident spot and the hospital, confirmed that two bullets were recovered. “We are investigating from all angles to ascertain whether this is a case of murder or suicide,” he said.

Political and family background

Anil hailed from Paithara village in Kulcharam mandal and was active in local Dalit welfare initiatives as the SC cell president. His sudden death has shocked Congress workers in the district.

Family members told police that Anil had no known personal enmity but demanded a thorough investigation to uncover the truth behind his death.

Police shifted the body to the Medak government hospital for autopsy to ascertain the exact cause and time of death. Forensic teams also inspected the accident site to trace any evidence of a shooting incident before the crash.

Senior police officials have formed special teams to probe the case from all angles, including political rivalry and personal disputes.
