Afzalgunj police seize firecrackers worth Rs 18 lakh from unlicensed godown
Hyderabad: The police seized illegally stored explosive firecrackers, valued at approximately Rs 18 lakh, from a godown and apprehended the accused.
The Commissioner’s Task Force, East Zone, in coordination with Afzalgunj Police, conducted a major raid on Friday, uncovering a firecracker godown in Siddamber Bazar, Osman Gunj Road.
Raid triggered by tip-off
Acting on a credible tip-off, the East Zone Task Force raided a residential premises at Siddamber Bazar, beside Mohanlal Fireworks.
The accused, Shyam Kumar Sugandhi (55), a businessman of Abids, was taken into custody for illegally storing explosive firecrackers without a license.
Large-scale seizure
Police recovered 100 cartons of various firecracker brands from the godown. The total estimated value of the seized goods is approximately Rs 18 lakh. Authorities confirmed that the accused had no valid license to store explosive materials.
Safety risks highlighted
The police emphasised that storing explosive firecrackers in a residential area posed significant risks to human lives and property. Any untoward incident could have led to severe damage, underscoring the danger of illegal storage practices.
