Anantapur tragedy: BJP worker among 9 killed in road accident

Marriage festivities turned into mourning when nine persons were killed and another severely injured after a speedy lorry rammed into an Innova car near Uravakonda Mandal, Budagavi on Anantapur-Bellary National Highway. The incident happened on Sunday.

Among the deceased is BJP state member K Venkatappa. The incident happened when a family was returning home after attending the wedding of Venkatappa's daughter in Bellary.

All nine persons are residents of Lattavaram, Nimbagallu, Bommanhall in Uravakonda zone. The deceased include six women, two men, and one child.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the accident occurred after the speedy lorry hit the vehicle. All the deceased were shifted to the hospital for postmortem. A case has been registered by the police.

On hearing about the incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "I am pained by the loss of lives due to a tragic accident in Anantapur district." He further announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh each from PMNRF to the next of kin of the deceased people in the accident.
