By Newsmeter Network Published on 21 Sep 2024 2:22 AM GMTAmaravati: Andhra Pradesh Police arrested YSRCP leader K Vidyasagar from Dehradun in the Mumbai-based actress harassment case.
On September 13, the actress cum model Kadambari Jetwani filed a case at the Ibrahimpatnam police station in Vijayawada, prompting the city police to register a case under IPC Sections 192, 211, 218, 220, 354 (D), 467, 420 and others.
"As part of the investigation, police teams searched for Vidyasagar in Delhi and Dehradun areas. Today, he was arrested at Tree of Life resort...Dehradun, Uttarakhand," said Vijayawada police commissioner SV Rajasekhar Babu in a press release.
He was produced in a local court at Dehradun and is being brought to Vijayawada. He will be will be produced before the court here, said Babu.
The Mumbai-based actress-cum-model was allegedly harassed by the erstwhile YSRCP government. She recently met Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha and requested protection.
She exuded confidence that the TDP-led NDA government would take all the necessary steps to investigate the harassment meted out to her and her family during the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy-led regime.
Recently, the Andhra Pradesh government also suspended three senior IPS officers for their alleged involvement in 'hastily arresting' and 'harassing' the actress in February. As per the inquiry report, these three IPS officers failed to supervise the investigation properly. They did not ensure that the complaint was thoroughly examined and an essential investigation was carried out before issuing instructions to proceed with arrests.
IPS officer Vishal Gunni met the then Director General of Police, Intelligence on January 31, 2024. He proceeded to Mumbai on February 2, 2024, on verbal instructions, to arrest Jethwani. The FIR was registered on February 2, 2024, at 6:30 AM and as predetermined, Vishal Gunni proceeded to Mumbai without any written instructions or any foreign passport from his superior officers in this regard.
"This conduct makes it extremely clear that action was initiated well before the crime was registered and that the officer was acting solely based on the prior instructions of the then Commissioner of Police, Vijayawada, and the then Director General of Police, Intelligence, issued on January 31, even before registration of the crime. It was further reported that Vishal did not even claim the T.A., though he went to Mumbai to do official work. Vishal Gunni failed to allow the person/s arrested to explain, nor did he conduct any investigation before highhandedly arresting her," said the memo issued.
She accused the police officials of threatening her with dire consequences during the previous government if she did not withdraw a case she earlier filed against a top executive of a corporate house in Mumbai.
It is pertinent to note that Kadambari Jetwani made allegations that a YSRC leader Kukkala Vidyasagar deceived her under the false pretext of marriage. Following this, he, with the help of influential IPS officers, threatened her and her family members, as per the case details.
Vidyasagar and Jethwani met long ago at a private function and became friends. She later distanced herself from Vidyasagar after he allegedly began to torture her by sending his nude pictures.
