Hyderabad: A 14-year-old boy died from electrocution while trying to retrieve a shuttlecock from a transformer during a badminton game at a relative’s house in KPHB Colony.
Came to attend ceremony
The victim, Vijay Kartik, a Class 10 student from Kothur in Bapatla district of Andhra Pradesh, had come to Hyderabad with his parents and sister to attend a family ceremony.
They were staying at a relative’s residence in Bhagatsingh Nagar, Phase-2, and had planned to attend another function in Malkajgiri on Monday.
Fatal contact with live wire
Police said Vijay was playing badminton in the compound with another family member when the shuttlecock landed on an electric transformer located near the boundary wall. In an attempt to retrieve it using his racket, he came in contact with a live wire and suffered a powerful electric shock.
Rescue efforts fail
His cousin, who saw him collapse, rushed to help and attempted to revive him. The boy was shifted to a nearby private hospital, but doctors declared him dead.
KPHB police have registered a case and are probing the circumstances of the incident. Officials are also assessing the safety measures around the transformer to prevent such accidents in future.
