Another gold smuggling bid foiled; 970 grams yellow metal seized at Hyderabad airport

The gold was concealed inside the bandages tied to both legs. The passenger was traveling from Sharjah to Hyderabad in Air Arabia flight G9-450.
On 09.01.22 Hyderabad Customs booked a case for smuggling of gold against a male pax arriving by Flight G9-450 from Sharjah.970 grams of gold valued at Rs. 47.55 lakhs recovered & seized. On January 4, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) Intelligence team at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Shamshabad seized Saudi Riyals worth Rs. 34.49 lakh from a passenger. The CISF team checked Mohd Naseer (24) who was scheduled to leave for Sharjah on an Air Arabia flight. The officers found Saudi Riyals worth Rs. 34.49 lakh in Indian currency concealed in his bag. The passenger was handed over to the Customs officials for further investigation.
Recently the cases of gold smuggling have increased from Gulf Countries to Hyderabad. In one of the cases, the Hyderabad Customs seized gold worth Rs. 59.23 lakhs from a passenger who arrived from Dubai on December 27. The man had hidden the gold paste, weighing 1.19 kg, inside the rectum.
Earlier, on December 13, the Customs officials had seized 316.40 gm of gold worth Rs. 15.71 lakh at RGIA. The gold was concealed inside a voltage converter, the Customs sources said. The gold was retrieved from a flight that arrived from Dubai.
