Hyderabad: The Chilkalguda police on 9 June arrested a 23-year-old man for sexually assaulting a minor. He was apprehended within 24 hours of the crime being reported to the police.
Mohammed Imtiyaz Ahmed, a plumber and a resident of Amberpet, has a criminal record and was detained under the PD Act in 2021 by the Amberpet police.
On 8 June, the victim, a minor girl, filed a complaint alleging that Imtiyaz introduced himself to the victim and sexually assaulted her by making false declarations of love. Based on the girl's statement, a case under various sections of the IPC and the POCSO ACT was registered at the Chilkalguda police station and an investigation was launched.
Imtiyaz was arrested on Thursday and will be produced before the court for judicial remand.
According to the police, the accused has been involved in various cases in the limits of the Hyderabad commissionerate.
This incident comes even as the city is witnessing a spate of sexual offences against minor girls. The Jubilee Hills gang-rape case where a 17-year-old was gang-raped by a group of youths, including some juveniles, has rocked the city.
