Guntur: Andhra Pradesh police have arrested former YSRCP Bapatla MP Nandigam Suresh in the 2021 TDP headquarters attack case.

He was arrested on the outskirts of Hyderabad at Manchirevula at 1 AM on Thursday, when he was reportedly trying to escape from the state.

This arrest comes after the High Court dismissed the anticipatory bail petition filed by YSRC leaders accused in the attack.

In October 2021, YSRC MLCs Lella Appireddy and Talasila Raghuram, former MP Nandigama Suresh, party leader Devineni Avinash, and several activists attacked the TDP headquarters in Mangalagiri and ransacked it over alleged abusive remarks by TDP leader Pattabhiram Kommareddy against the then chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

They had filed separate anticipatory bail petitions in the High Court. In August, the Andhra Pradesh High Court granted conditional bail to the four YSRC leaders, who were accused and arrested for the attack on the TDP headquarters in Mangalagiri.

On September 5, the High Court dismissed the anticipatory bail petitions filed by YSRC leaders. The court also dismissed their petitions, seeking suspension of the orders to enable them to approach the Supreme Court for relief.

The High Court further refused to hold its order to allow the petitioners to move the Supreme Court.

On Wednesday, police went to Sureshā€™s residence in Uddandrayuni Palem, Guntur district. However, Suresh had already escaped from the state.

Based on the cell phone records, police traced his movements in Hyderabad, and arrested him. He was brought back to Mangalagiri.

Sources said the other YSRC leaders Lella Appireddy, Talasila Raghuram, and Devineni Avinash are absconding. The police are on the lookout for them.
