Alluri Seetharama Raju: The Araku Valley police on Tuesday arrested a 42-year-old-man in connection with a woman's suicide. The arrested man has been identified as J. Bhaskar, a resident of Vizag city who runs a real-estate business.
The sub-inspector of Araku Valley, B. Satish, said Bhavani, a resident of Araku Valley in Alluri Sitarama Raju district, died by suicide by consuming poison on 26 May. The investigation revealed that Bhavani killed herself as she was being harassed by Bhaskar. The police said Bhaskar is a friend of the woman's husband and also a distant relative.
Around three years ago, Bhaskar had taken photos of the woman while she was changing her clothes. He had blackmailed her and threatened to upload the photos online. The woman had given him Rs. 80,000 but he blackmailed her again and asked for Rs. 1 lakh on 24 May. Despite her request, he continued to harass her for money.
Unable to bear the harassment, Bhavani consumed poison on 26 May. She was rushed to Vizag city but she died while undergoing treatment.
Based on a complaint from the woman's family, the police nabbed Bhaskar under sections 306, 384, and 354 C of the IPC. He was remanded and produced before the court.
