Police have arrested an army soldier for killing a railway employee in a desperate bid to marry his widow at PVN Colony in Malkajgiri.

Hyderabad: Police have arrested an army soldier for killing a railway employee in a desperate bid to marry his widow at PVN Colony in Malkajgiri.
The victim has been identified as Vijay Kumar. The accused has been identified as Gudla Srinivasa Reddy alias Akhil, a sepoy in 14 Signal Regiment posted at Dehradun in Uttarakhand.
Police said Srinivasa Reddy killed Vijay Kumar so that he could marry his wife Bhavya, who is his relative. Reddy was caught on a CCTV camera near Vijay Kumar's residence. Later a police team visited Dehradun and arrested Srinivas Reddy.
Srinivasa Reddy and Bhavya are close relatives and they were earlier engaged to each other. But due to some family issues, their marriage was called off and later Bhavya married Vijay Kumar, who was working for the railways at Secunderabad.
The couple along with Vijay Kumar's mother Malleshwari was residing at PVN Colony of Malkajgiri. In the last week of April, Bhavya went to meet her parents at Visakhapatnam. A few days later, Malleshwari tested positive for Covid and was admitted to Railway hospital, Lalaguda for treatment.
Vijay used to visit her every day and return home. On May 8, he returned from the hospital. Sometime later, his relative residing in the same area came to inquire about his mother's health. However, she found him dead. She immediately informed Vijay's aunt Sharada, who rushed to the spot and alerted police.
During the investigation, police scanned CCTVs located in and around the place of offence. The accused was seen moving suspiciously. Vijay Kumar's brother-in-law identified the accused and informed the police.
A police team was deputed to Dehradun to arrest the accused. During the investigation, Srinivasa Reddy confessed to have killed Vijay Kumar. He said though his marriage with Bhavya was called off, he wished to marry her. Since she was already married, he decided to kill her husband and marry her.
