ASR: Security forces bust Maoist dump; 20-kilo explosives seized

Visakhapatnam: Security forces busted a Maoist arms dump and recovered a huge cache of explosives and communication devices in the forest area of Jakkam village in Alluri Sitarama Raju district.

The operation was launched jointly by special police party-198 and personnel of the CRPF 234 battalion after receiving a tip-off about arms and ammunition dump in the forest area. Police said the dump belonged to Pedabayalu and Galikonda Area Committees of the banned outfit CPI (Maoist)

Highly explosive `cordtex' weighing over 20 kgs was seized. Superintendent of Police, ASR district, Satish Kumar said they have foiled nefarious designs of Maoists by seizing the explosive materials. "Our teams were also on the job to ascertain how the Maoist procured huge quantities of the explosives such as cordtex, electrical detonators, gunpowder, and few others," he said.

Last month, ASR police seized explosives and Rs 39 lakh cash from a Maoist dump. "We have found some revolutionary literature at Jakkam and the literature aimed for killing the innocents by branding them as police informers and extortion," he said. Kumar said Maoists have been obstructing the development in the tribal pockets and killing innocents. "We are appealing to the tribal people to lead a peaceful life and don't believe in the Maoists' ideology," he said.
