Telangana: Teenmaar Mallanna of Q news was remanded to 14 days judicial custody on Wednesday. Medipalli police registered a case of attempt to murder against him and seven others.
Mallanna, whose real name is Chintapandu Naveen, was taken to Charlapally jail after he was remanded to judicial custody.
The case stems from the abduction and restraint of two police constables and preventing them from performing their legal duties.
Five people were taken into custody in a dramatic turn of events on Tuesday evening. Mallanna was produced before the Hayant Nagar court on Wednesday.
Q News editor Bandaru Ravinder, driver Uppala Nikhil, Sirra Sudhakar, Chinta Sandeep Kumar, Raman Hazari, Chandu, and Anil were also named as suspects in the case, but Raman Hazari, Chandu, and Anil remain at large.
Abduction and assault of cops
The incident took place around 8 pm on Tuesday when the police were conducting checking near Raghavendra Bhavan in Peerzadiguda.
Two police constables in civil dress stopped three persons who were carrying lathis. Despite informing them that they were police officials conducting checks, the two constables were taken forcibly to the office in the vicinity and assaulted.
Mallanna, who allegedly ordered the constables to be brought to a room in the building, snatched their phones and thrashed them severely.
Senior officials of the Rachakonda police commissionerate also went to the spot where the constables were held. They said the accused blatantly obstructed them while they were trying to rescue the constables.
Police registered a case against Mallanna and his associates. They were, identified as Bandaru Ravinder, Uppala Nikhil, Sirra Sudhakar, and Chintala Sandeep Kumar. An FIR was lodged under sections of abduction, assaulting government officials on duty, attempt to murder, and illegal confinement.
Mallanna's previous controversies
Mallanna is no stranger to controversy. Across the state, there have been approximately 90 cases registered against him. Five of these are in Rachakonda alone. Medipalli police stated in the remand report on Mallanna's arrest that false and intentional news is being broadcast on social media and the Q News channel.
