Hyderabad: A resident of Bahadurpura lost Rs 21.7 lakh to cyber fraudsters who posed as prospective brides on a popular matrimonial platform.

Search for bride turns into nightmare

Police said the victim was browsing profiles on the matrimonial site in search of a suitable bride when he came across a profile and sent a request. Soon after, two individuals introduced themselves as a prospective bride and her sister and began chatting with him regularly to gain his confidence.

Impersonated Pakistani celebrities

During their conversations, the suspects allegedly used fake identities and impersonated well-known actors from Pakistan to appear credible. They engaged in emotionally manipulative chats over several days to trap him.

Medical emergency scam

The fraudsters later shared forged medical reports, claiming that their mother was critically ill and required urgent treatment. They requested financial help from the victim, assuring him that the amount would be repaid soon.

Believing their story, the victim transferred a total of Rs 21.7 lakh in multiple transactions for the alleged medical expenses. However, after receiving the money, the suspects stopped responding to his calls and messages.

Realising he had been cheated, the man approached the Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway to identify and apprehend the culprits.
