Balapur man gets 10 years in jail for killing wife in 2016

Hyderabad: A local court on Monday sentenced a man to 10 years in prison for killing his wife six years ago. On 23 October 2016, the Balapur police received a complaint from Beejanbee of Jalpally village in Balapur mandal, Ranga Reddy district, who said her son-in-law had killed her daughter. The woman's 20-year-old daughter Samreen Fathima was married to Syed Naveed (25). The couple was blessed with a baby boy. They lived in a rented house at Shaheen Nagar in Balapur.

On 22 October, Naveed had come home drunk. When Samreen asked him for money, he told her that the money was missing from his pocket. The couple got into a quarrel. On the intervening night of 22 and 23 October, Naveed beat Samreen with a bamboo stick and killed her.

Based on the complaint, a case was registered at the Balapur police station. The police arrested Naveed and remanded him to judicial custody.

On 4 April 2022, a court convicted Naveed to undergo 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 1,000 against him.
