On 19 October 2015, the Balapur police received a complaint that the 13-year-old victim was sexually assaulted by Mahammad Rasid and Akbar Khan. On 18 October, the girl's parents went to the fair price shop leaving the girl and her younger sister at home. At 4 p.m, Rasid and Akbar came to their house and inquired about her parents.
They knew the girls' parents were not at home and tried to lure the minor girl by giving her Rs. 100. When she refused their offer, the two men gagged her mouth and sexually assaulted her. They also threatened the victim with dire consequences and asked her not to tell her parents of the incident. The two men then fled the scene.
Based on the complaint, the Balapur police registered a case. The police arrested Rasid and Akbar and remanded them in judicial custody. On the completion of the investigation, a charge sheet was filed. Akbar died during the trial. Rasid was convicted on Tuesday.
