Hyderabad: A 35-year-old Bangladeshi national running an international human trafficking and prostitution racket was detained under the Preventive Detention Act on Saturday and sent to the special prison for women in Chenchalguda.
Moyna Akter alias Munni Shen of Barpara village in Bangladesh's Narayongonj district was running a prostitution racket in the limits of Saroornagar police station of Rachakonda commissionerate.
Munni arrived in India in 2014 on a tourist Visa. Her Visa was valid till 18 May 2015 but she stayed back even after it expired. She fraudulently obtained Aadhar and PAN cards under the name Shilpi Biswas and started running human trafficking and prostitution business in Hyderabad.
She was first arrested in 2015 by the Vanasthalipuram police under various sections of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act 1956 and Foreigners Act 1946. While facing trial in this case, she continued to indulge in human trafficking, exploiting the trafficked persons, and running prostitution rackets in LB Nagar, Uppal, and Saroornagar police station limits.
She was involved in as many as six cases in the various police stations of the Rachakonda commissionerate. Earlier, she was arrested for overstaying, fraudulently obtaining an Aadhar card, and indulging in human trafficking activities and remanded to judicial custody.
Based on credible information, the Saroornagar police laid a trap and arrested Munnu and her associate Bodapati Sudheer on 17 May this year. However, she lied to the police and said she was a victim. She was sent to a rescue home but was later identified as the kingpin of the human trafficking operation.
Mahesh M. Bhagwat, the commissioner of Rachakonda police, invoked the PD Act on Saturday and detained Muunu.
