Banned Chinese manja sales stopped in Kacheguda, Domalguda; 12 arrested, 106 bobbins seized

Hyderabad: Kacheguda Police apprehended five persons for their alleged involvement in possession and illegal sales of prohibited Chinese manja in the city.

The accused have been identified as Nomula Santosh Kumar (26), Nomula Pushpa (35), Lalith Singh (39), Kashiram Singh (38) and Om Prakash Singh (45). Another accused, identified as Kapil from Dhoolpet, is absconding. Lalith Singh was arrested earlier under the NDPS Act.

As many as 106 bobbins worth Rs 1.06 lakh were seized from the accused.

Case details

Based on credible information on Friday, Kachiguda Police SI and team proceeded to Mothi Market and apprehended Nomula Santosh Kumar, who was supported by his mother, Pushpa. They seized 51 bobbins of Chinese manja from their residence.

During interrogation, Santosh confessed that he purchased the manja from a well-known person by name Lalith Singh. Immediately, Kachiguda Police, along with crime staff, proceeded to Dhoolpet and recovered 35 bobbins of Chinese manja from the residence of Lalith Singh. Further her confessed that he had purchased the above stock well before two months from Lal Kuan, Old Delhi.

Seizures in Domalguda

In another incident, Domalguda police seized eight bobbins of Chinese manja and arrested four sellers for selling the banned manja. The accused have been identified as Prashanth (20), Akhil (19), Pavan (19) and Deepak (19). Another accused by the name of Shiva Raj is absconding.

Case details

On Friday, WSI Vijaya, along with staff, was performing patrolling duty within the jurisdiction of PS Domalguda, near NTR Stadium, Domalguda. They caught the smugglers walking around suspiciously. They confessed that their friend, named Prashanth, had provided them with eight bobbins of Chinese manja for sale to needy customers for commission/easy money.

In the third incident, Amberpet police arrested a person with contraband worth Rs 72,000.

The accused has been identified as K Sunil Kumar (50) at Jummerath Bazaar, Devinagar. Another two were involved, named Charan and Rajas, who are absconding.

Why is Chinese manja banned?

The State Government has imposed complete ban on procuring, stocking, sale and use of nylon thread, which is commonly called as ‘Chinese dor’, or other synthetic (non-biodegradable) threads coated with glass or other harmful substances used for kite flying or other purposes, which is likely to cause grievous injury and inconvenience to animals including birds as well as human beings during festivals or other occasions.
