Hyderabad: A 12-year-old visually challenged student died after falling from the fifth floor of the school building in Begumpet. Identified as Gautam Lakshmi Srikar, he was a 6th-standard student of Devanar School for the Blind.

Begumpet police station Sub-inspector Jayachander said Gautam came to school with his caretaker. He usually studied in a classroom on the fourth floor. His caretaker used to stay with him from 10 am to 12 pm.

However, on Thursday afternoon, Gautam grabbed the railing of the stairs and went up to the fifth floor. Construction work was taking place on the floor, and the contractor had demolished the stone wall to move the material. Gautam accidentally fell down where the wall had been removed, and died on the spot. The body of the student was taken to Gandhi Hospital. Begumpet police have registered a case and launched an investigation. This incident has left the school community and Gautam's family in shock.
