Hyderabad: Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) has issued a strong alert on the increasing trend of cyber fraud targeting debit and credit card holders.

Citizens are being duped through fake reward points redemption offers, officials said.

Fraudsters masquerade as bank officials

TGCSB Director Shikha Goel explained that scammers contact victims via calls, SMS, or WhatsApp messages, often impersonating staff of reputed banks. The fraudsters entice cardholders by promising the redemption of unused reward points.

Malicious links lead to data theft

Victims are urged to click on links or download APK files that mimic official banking apps. Once installed, these malicious tools can steal sensitive data, including account details, OTPs, CVVs, and PINs, which are then exploited for unauthorized transactions.

Thousands lost in recent cases

Recent incidents have reportedly led to losses of thousands of rupees. Goel reiterated that banks never request OTPs, PINs, or other confidential information to redeem reward points.

Use official channels only

Citizens are advised to redeem reward points exclusively through official bank apps or websites, avoid suspicious links, and immediately hang up on calls from unknown numbers requesting banking details.
