Hyderabad: Telangana Director General of Police B Shivadhar Reddy, IPS, inaugurated a new Bharosa Centre at Shamshabad under the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate on Thursday.

The facility will cater to victims of violence and distress across 17 police station limits spanning Rajendranagar and Shamshabad zones.

Comprehensive support for women and children

The Shamshabad Bharosa Centre, staffed entirely by trained women personnel, will provide integrated support services including legal aid, medical assistance, psychological counselling, and government compensation facilitation. It is especially equipped to handle cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The centre will cover 17 police station jurisdictions: Rajendranagar, Mailardevpally, Attapur, Chevella, Shabad, Moinabad, Shamshabad, RGIA, Kothur, Nandigama, Shadnagar, Kondurg, Chowdariguda, Keshampet, Amangal, Kadthal and Talakondapally.

It will function with an eight-member team comprising a receptionist, centre coordinator-cum-administrator, legal counsellor, two counsellors, a support person, an Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM), and an accountant. Additionally, one Sub-Inspector (SI) and one Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) will oversee operations.

No woman or child should feel alone, says DGP

Speaking at the inauguration, DGP B Shivadhar Reddy, IPS, said that “Bharosa Centres serve as one-stop crisis support systems, offering justice, protection, and emotional care under one roof.”

He noted that these centres provide end-to-end assistance from the initial complaint to investigation, trial, and compensation.

“They ensure that no woman or child feels alone or helpless during times of crisis,” he said, lauding the collective effort behind the establishment of the new facility.

The DGP added that the initiative reflected Telangana Police’s commitment to ‘compassionate and impactful’ policing and announced plans to expand Bharosa Centres to all districts across the state.

Expansion of the Bharosa Initiative

Launched in 2016 by the Telangana Police Department, the Bharosa initiative provides coordinated legal, medical, psychological, and policing support for women and children affected by violence or distress.

Currently, 33 Bharosa Centres operate across 24 districts and six Police Commissionerates in Telangana. The programme is managed by the Telangana Police with support from the Government of Telangana and the Department of Women Development and Child Welfare. All centres are monitored by the Women's Safety Wing.

Recognised nationally as a best practice in victim-centric policing, the Bharosa model is considered a benchmark for integrated and survivor-focused justice delivery.

Third centre in Cyberabad, built with CSR support

The Shamshabad centre is the third Bharosa facility within the Cyberabad Commissionerate. The building was sponsored by the Bangarutalli Foundation (BBG Group) and executed by P.V.N. Infra.

BBG Group expressed pride in partnering with the Telangana Police for the initiative and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting future welfare projects.

The inauguration concluded with acknowledgements to all contributors and partner organisations involved in the establishment of the Shamshabad Bharosa Centre.
