Kumar is a resident of Mailardevpally in Ranga Reddy and hails from Gaya in Bihar.
A case has been registered against him under various sections 420 and 379 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Cash worth Rs. 56,400, a Bank of India (BOI) ATM card, and a mobile phone was seized from him. He was produced before the court.
On 18 June, Gayakodu Shankar (56) of Shamshabad went to the Axis Bank ATM in Puranapul in Mangalghat. He did not know how to withdraw money so he requested a man waiting beside the ATM to withdraw money for him. The man took Shankar's ATM card and withdrew Rs. 10,000 and gave it to him.
While Shankar was counting the money, the man swapped his ATM card with a duplicate ICICI ATM card and fled the spot. After stealing the card, he withdrew Rs. 70,000 from Shankar's account. Following this, Shankar filed a case at the Magalghat police station the same day.

He waits near ATMs and targets old and illiterate people who do not know how to withdraw cash from ATMs. Once he finds such people, he approaches them and pretends to help them. Later, he diverts their attention and swaps their ATM card with a duplicate one. He then flees with their ATM cards and withdraws money from their accounts.
