Birthday celebration turns into mourning: Woman, son jumps to death at Gajuwaka

Vishakapatanam: A 26-year-old woman held her two-year-old son in a lap and jumped from the seventh floor of her apartment at Autonagar in Gajuwaka of Vizag city. The woman took the extreme step after an altercation with her husband over the proposed birthday celebrations of their son.

The deceased were identified as Jayanthi Behara and her son Ronith Behara. Police said Jayanthi's husband Sudarshan Behara is an accountant with a private firm in Vizag city.Police said Ronith birthday falls on July 11 and Jayanthi's a day later on Monday. The couple had purchased some new clothes and other things to celebrate Ronith's birthday in a grand manner. They had invited relatives, friends, and others for the big occasion.

However, there was a fight between the couple over a birthday celebration on Friday morning. In a fit of anger, Jayanthi along with her son jumped off the balcony on Friday night. Jayanthi died on the spot and her son was shifted to the nearby hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

Emotions ran high when Sudarshan placed the new clothes, which he had purchased for the birthday celebrations, on their bodies.

Gajuwaka police registered a case under Section 174 of CrPC and shifted the bodies to the morgue for the post mortem. Locals said the extreme step of the woman has left her husband in deep grief.
