BJP Vs MIM: Party cadre fight over street corner meeting in Ramnaspur

Hyderabad: Tension prevailed in the Kalapather area, in the Old City of Hyderabad, on Thursday night after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) men staged a dharna or sit-in. They demanded action against an All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) corporator for allegedly threatening, abusing, and preventing them from holding a meeting.

The BJP's local unit had organised a street corner meeting at the mochi colony in the Ramnaspur division of the Bahadupura constituency, located within the Kalapather police station limits. Upon learning about the meeting, AIMIM's Ramnaspura corporator Mohd Qader and other workers reportedly arrived and disrupted the program. They allegedly scattered chairs and verbally abused the BJP workers for holding the programme in their area.

As the situation escalated, the police tried to disperse both groups at Mochi Colony. However, BJP leaders argued with the police while being taken into custody, and some activists tried to obstruct the police. One of the leaders questioned why they were being arrested, in addition to the AIMIM corporator who obstructed the meeting.

Subsequently, the BJP leaders protested at the Kalapattar police station, and the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Chaitanya from the South Zone arrived to address the situation. The BJP leaders demanded that cases be filed against the AIMIM corporator responsible for obstructing the meeting. In response, the DCP assured the leaders that an investigation would be conducted and action would be taken against those responsible, including any police misconduct that might have occurred. The relevant police officers would also receive show-cause notices immediately. Finally, the BJP leaders were pacified and left.

The Kalapather police have registered a case against the AIMIM corporator under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, and police pickets have been deployed in Kalapather's Mochi Colony and surrounding areas as a precautionary measure.
